Craft brewers start Ontario tour in London

Thirteen craft breweries— one coming from as far as Kingston— are participating in the Ontario Beer Tour, which hits London on Saturday.

“The craft beer industry is quite unique because a lot of it is still under the radar as much as many of the companies have full-fledged businesses in their cities and towns, so this gives people the chance to try some beers they wouldn’t usually get to try,” said Scott Bollert, organizer of the event.

He said the event will also serve as an opportunity for some breweries to showcase their ciders, which Bollert says is a side of the industry that is gaining popularity in the region.

London is the first stop of the tour, which will be going to other places, including Burlington and Kitchener, over the next several months.

A percentage of the proceeds of the event will be donated to Youth Opportunities Unlimited, a local organization that supports youth with education, skills training and employment supports.

“This event was created to allow people to get outside the box and find some unique, fancy (beers) that will interest their taste buds,” Bollert said.
