Pair brandish gun at police during patrol van break

The trio were disturbed while breaking in to a phone shop in Peckham in the early hours of Wednesday - writes itv.com

While one officer arrested a 24-year-old man near the shop in Rye Lane, another tried to stop two other suspects fleeing on a moped.

The pair on the bike drove in circles around the group, making threats and pushing and kicking until the 24-year-old managed to escape. They then drove off.

Colleagues nearby who had been called to help managed to catch the first man, firing a Taser during the arrest.

He was taken to his home address so that it could be searched, and as officers prepared to take him away in a police van two men pulled up alongside on a moped and brandished a gun. The police van drove off without any shots being fired.

This once again demonstrates the bravery of officers who put themselves in harm's way every day in order to protect the public. Fortunately the officers only received minor injuries and, thanks to the rapid support of colleagues, one of the suspects was detained. However, two suspects remain outstanding, and these are clearly reckless and dangerous individuals. Our priority now is to identify and arrest them.
