Police van crash: Officer injured as wooden post impales windscreen

One female officer was taken to hospital.

A police van on a 999 call was involved in a crash which left one officer injured.

The police van came off the road when it collided with a car and smashed into a hedge outside Meriden Business Park, just off the A45 - writes coventrytelegraph.net

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "Police responding to an emergency call have been involved in a collision on Birmingham Road, Coventry at around 8.30am this morning (7 August).

"A police van collided with a car and then a hedge, resulting in a post going through the windscreen.

"The driver of the car was unhurt and a female officer was taken to hospital to be treated for whiplash injuries."

Photos of the abandoned van show the windscreen is smashed and the airbag deployed.

The near-side sliding door is scraped and dented, the front bumper and wing have come off and at least two of the tyres have come off the rims.

An eye-witness told CoventryLive there were around 10 police cars at the scene earlier this morning.

West Midlands Police said the incident had not been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
