OPP have more questions than answers in case of canoeists seen in Thames River in Ingersoll

INGERSOLL- Ingersoll OPP, the canine unit, firefighters and the emergency response unit are scouring the Thames River west of Ingersoll Street for two canoeists they believe "are in distress."

Const. Ed Sanchuk said OPP received a call from a citizen who spotted two canoeists around 3 p.m. standing in knee deep water by an overturned canoe yelling for help - writes lfpress.com.

"We have more questions than answers right now," Sanchuk said.

The pair reportedly weren't dressed for the weather and weren't wearing life jackets.

The citizen said the two got back in the canoe and continued on, but he lost sight of the them.

He said his feeling was the canoeists were in distress.

"Our concern is to determine where these two people are," Sanchuk said. "We want to reach out to the community to ask if anyone had loved ones who were out in a canoe around 3 p.m."

Anyone with information about the missing canoeists is asked to call 1-888-310-1122.
