Remembrance Sunday

Residents can mark RemembranceSundayin Tower Hamlets this yearon 12 November at Merchant Navy Memorial, Trinity Square Gardens, Tower Hill, London, EC3N 4DJ from 10.30-12noon.

Held on the secondSundayin November every year, RemembranceSundaycommemorates the agreement to end fighting during the First World War in 1918 and commemorates the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts - writes towerhamlets.gov.uk.

The Trinity Square Gardens venue has an added significance in Tower Hamlets as the location of the national Merchant Navy Memorial. This bears the names of those merchant seafarers and fishermen killed in the First and Second World Wars together with the Falklands Campaign, for who there is no grave but the sea.

Everyone is welcome at the service which will be conducted by the Reverend Reg Sweet, Honorary Chaplain to the Honourable Company of Master Mariners, assisted by the Reverend Margaret Sweet. It will be accompanied by The Philip Wake Quartet.
