Over 250 guests attended a Brent Council celebration to mark the 30th anniversary of Black History Month in the UK.
Celebrating Black Excellence
Taking place on Thursday 26 October in the Civic Centre's Grand Hall, the event celebrated the achievements of black and ethnic minority communities within Brent, as well as raising awareness of issues still faced - writes brent.gov.uk.
It featured presentations on African ancient civilisations and Black History, a panel discussion on Black Excellence, live poetry and singing as well as an inspiring presentation by Althea Loderick, Strategic Director at Brent Council.
Cllr Margaret McLennan, Deputy Leader of Brent Council, said:
"This was a fantastic celebration of Black History Month. I'm proud of the diversity of our communities, and events like these really go to show that culture is thriving in Brent."
The event was a culmination of a month of exciting cultural events and activities happening in Brent's libraries, including readings by a variety of authors and a fascinating exhibition on the role of African soldiers in WW1.
