Police were called at about 6.15pm to the scene in Walthamstow, north east London.
The victim was taken to an east London hospital, and his condition is described as life-threatening.
About 25 minutes later, police were called after a second acid attack was carried out a mile away in Tottenham.
The second victim, also in his 30s,was taken to hospital but his condition is not said to be life-threatening or life-changing.
The Tottenham attack was also allegedly carried out by two suspects on a moped in an attempted robbery.
But police said the two incidents are not being linked at present.
Police were called at 18:17hrs on Thursday, 2 November to Walpole Road, Walthamstow E17 after a man was sprayed wih a noxious substance.
Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade.
The victim, believed to be in his 30s, was treated at the scene and then taken to an east London hospital for treatment.
His condition is described as life-threatening at this stage.
It was reported that there were two suspects on a moped, and this was an attempted robbery.
No arrests; enquiries continue.
It is not being linked with the incident in Tottenham.
