London Uber drivers from 2020 will be prohibited from using any cars, except hybrids or fully automatic. Such measures will be taken in the framework of the campaign for air purification in the capital. Uber also announced plans to transfer the branch in the UK to using electric vehicles by 2025. This decision is partly dictated by the recently adopted law, which provides that by 2020 all new personal vehicles in the capital must have zero emissions.
Fred Jones, representative of the British branch of Uber, said that the company's duty is to transfer cars to clean power sources, since the problem of pollution of the atmosphere by emissions of vehicles has reached a peak long ago, and polluted air is already causing more than 9,500 deaths a year. "Air pollution is a growing problem, and we are determined to play our part in the fight for the purity of the British capital." At the moment, the number of electric vehicles operating on Uber routes is already over 150.
