The search is on for the London Borough of Culture and Brent has revealed its bid to capture the title in 2020.
Brent targets London Borough of Culture 2020
Using a dedicated website at www.brentculture2020.co.uk, supporters are being urged to share their selfies and videos from the huge range of cultural activities on offer locally while backing Brent’s bid - informs the brent.gov.uk.
There will be two winning boroughs, one for 2019 and one in 2020, with more than £1million up for grabs in each year from the Mayor of London for a programme of events which showcase the winning borough’s cultural story.
Cllr Muhammed Butt, Leader of Brent Council, said: “Brent has hosted iconic and memorable moments like Live Aid and Nelson Mandela’s 70th birthday concert but we are so much more than the events at Wembley Stadium or Wembley Arena. Important though these venues are Brent is bursting with culture from grassroots groups who have chosen Brent as their home. We have music, dance, theatre, art and food from all corners of the globe right on our doorstep and I am truly excited to see how local people want our bid to evolve.”
Brent will submit its application to the Mayor of London on 1 December 2017 with the winners announced in February 2018.
