"Large vehicles are doing dangerous three-point turns after failing to see road closure signs in Brent."
Brent water works: Drivers reversing up road and doing 'dangerous' three-point turns due to poor traffic diversion signs, residents claim
That's the claim of worried drivers who have complained that a lack of clear signage approaching Banister Road, Kensal Rise and a section of Kilburn Lane is leaving motorists no choice but to perform dangerous manoeuvres to get on their way again - writes getwestlondon.co.uk.
The roads have been closed since Tuesday (August 29) while Thames Water undertakes work as part of the Moberly Sports Centre development in Chamberlayne Road.
Residents say that, having missed the signs, large vehicles have found their paths blocked and ended up reversing up the road to Sixth Avenue or doing three-point turns.
On Tuesday, Relief Organist tweeted Brent Council and Thames Water: "Banister Rd closure not indicated with signs from Queen's park via Kilburn Lane, traffic doing 3-point turns."
The scheduled Thames Water works are to build a water supply for the new Moberly Sports Centre development, and due to be completed on September 3.
On Wednesday (August 30), Brent Council reassured concerned residents on Twitter that: "An NRSWA Inspector has been assigned to look at the signage and advise company to provide better signage."
But on Thursday (August 31) residents complained that large vehicles were continuing to use the route.
A Thames Water spokesperson commented: "There are advanced warning signs on all approaches to Banister Road advising that Banister Road is closed between Chamberlayne Road and Kilburn Lane.
"The section of Chamberlayne Road north of the junction with Banister Road falls within a 7.5t weight restricted area and drivers of vehicles over 7.5t who have chosen to ignore the advanced road signs may well be trying to avoid receiving a PCN by turning around."
He added: "Officers are keeping an eye on vehicles doing this."
Brent Council has been contacted for comment.
