Improving the City's streets

The City of London has introduced a 'Time Banding Scheme' for both residential and commercial bagged waste (including recycling and loose cardboard) collections across the City.

This means that all businesses and residents are restricted from putting out waste and recycling sacks/bags and loose cardboard for collection on the public highway and footpaths during certain hours every day the week. The initiative is designed to significantly improve the quality of the street scene and environment of the City of London for businesses, visitors and residents.

Restricting the periods when bagged and loose waste is on the street will reduce the opportunity for loose rubbish to be added to the bagged waste. This should lessen the amount of loose food waste on the street, reducing a food source for vermin. The scheme will also reduce the number of obstructions on the footways, increasing access and improving safety for pedestrians and other users.

The changes only affect those residents and businesses that put out bagged and loose waste on the public highway for collection. This does not affect those who use wheelie bins or internal compactors to store and dispose of their waste.

Time bandings
8am to 6pmNo bags on highway or footpathsBetween 8am and 6pm businesses and residents will be restricted all year round from putting out bagged/loose waste and recycling for collection on the highway/pavements.
