Increased security as Wimbledon 2017 begins

Protective barriers similar to those installed on Westminster Bridge, London Bridge and other London landmarks have also been placed along the route into Wimbledon. It follows the spate of terror attacks in the capital  writes itv.

The blockades are a precautionary measure by the Metropolitan Police to ensure the public are safe during the two-week competition.

"We have taken into account the (current UK) threat level and those awful terrorist attacks that have taken place, and as a result, we have put together a proportionate policing plan with a significant number of resources to support the club to deliver a really safe secure competition this year."


As part of the policing measures, firearms officers will be deployed around the grounds and plain clothes officers will also be on site.
