The Committee of National Statistics identified the influence of the pound sterling depreciation factor against the major currencies on the activation of the inbound tourism.
Over the past year, the capital of Great Britain was visited by 19.1 million foreign tourists, which is 2.6% more than in 2015, what in absolute values is historical maximum. The peak of influx of tourists was at the fourth quarter of the year, including Christmas - in comparable dates to the previous year, the growth reached 8%.
The main factor of inbound tourism intensification from abroad to London, as the experts say, is the depreciation of the national currency against the dollar and euro - London has become more affordable for those who plan to have vacation there without unreasonable expense.
This assessment is confirmed by the fact that against the background of increase of gross hotel bookings and attendance of attractions and catering institutions, average tourist`s spending on all these accounts per a person declined.
Attendance of London by foreign tourists has been growing steadily, beginning from 2012, when the United Kingdom hosted the Olympic and Paralympic Games. As a result, for the period from 2011 to 2016, the number of tourists who visited the capital of the United Kingdom for the year, increased by 25%.
