Uncle and nephew jailed after betting shop robbery in Foxes Parade, Waltham Abbey

An uncle and his nephew have been jailed after being caught with a sledgehammer during a burglary.

Homeless Andrew Monks, 46, and Matthew Monks, 32, of Broomfield, Walthamstow, were found guilty of robbing a betting shop in Foxes Parade, Waltham Abbey.

The pair admitted to one count of burglary with intent to steal at Chelmsford Magistrates Court on Saturday.

The pair smashed an alarm box in the shop before forcing open the door, carrying out a "messy" search".

But they were caught by officers when trying to force a safe open and arrested.

Both were found with cutting equipment and a sledgehammer during the incident, at around 3am on Friday, May 5.

They have been jailed for 12 weeks.
